Have your say on the future of local councils in West Sussex

There’s still time to shape the future of local government in West Sussex.

Launched on 17 July, the joint local government survey asks people where they live or work, which council services they use, and how they believe local councils should be structured in the future.

Whether you’re a resident, a business owner, or part of a local organisation, this is a chance to influence how vital services like waste collection, housing, education, and social care are delivered in the future.

The survey closes on Wednesday 13 August at 11:59pm.

We now have nine Green Flag Awards!

Nine parks and gardens in Arun have been awarded or retained their prestigious Green Flag Awards.

We’ve grown from six to nine awarded sites, so Green Flags will continue to fly in Brookfield Park, Mewsbrook Park, Norfolk Gardens in Littlehampton, Old Rectory Gardens in Felpham, Marine Park Gardens in Aldwick, Hotham Park in Bognor Regis. Joining them are Jubilee Gardens in Arundel, Marina Gardens in Littlehampton and Arundel Cemetery.

The great news means that Arun has the biggest haul of Green Flags in West Sussex.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Arun District Council honours late councillor, Jim Brooks, as Honorary Alderman

Arun District Council is proud to announce that late Councillor Jim Brooks has been posthumously awarded the title of Honorary Alderman in recognition of his outstanding service to Arun District Council and the community.

The honour was formally conferred at a Full Council meeting held on 16 July 2025, where members unanimously supported the motion to recognise Cllr Brooks’ significant contributions to local government and civic life. Members of his family were present at the meeting and accepted a framed certificate and the Honorary Alderman’s jewel on his behalf.

Cllr Jim Brooks served as a district councillor for Marine Ward from 2007 and was a dedicated member of Bognor Regis Town Council, where he held the office of Mayor from 2011 to 2012. He also served as Chairman of Arun District Council during the 2021-22 civic year.

Accessible beach huts now available for hire

Three accessible beach huts have been installed on Littlehampton seafront. The huts are available to all, but they are especially designed to enable wheelchair users and people with mobility issues to enjoy the beach.

The huts are now ready for public hire at a day rate of £65.

The three huts provide wheelchair access directly from the promenade. They are double sized to make sure there’s enough space, along with a generous amount of decking outside each hut. It should be noted that maximum capacity per hut is ten people.

Celebrate our local heroes at Emergency Services Fun Days in Littlehampton and Bognor Regis

Two Emergency Services Fun Days are taking place this August in the heart of Littlehampton and Bognor Regis.

These free, family-friendly events promise fun, inspiration, and community spirit, all while showcasing the incredible work of our local emergency services.

Organised by Arun District Council’s Economy Team, in collaboration with Littlehampton Town Council and Bognor Regis Town Council, the town centre events aim to celebrate our frontline heroes, boost town centre footfall, and help strengthen community connections.

The Littlehampton Emergency Services Fun Day will be held on Thursday 7 August in the high street and town centre from 10am to 3pm. The Bognor Regis Emergency Services Fun Day will be held the following week on 14 August in London Road Precinct between 10am and 3pm.
