Southern Water local authority meetingA group of south east councils – including Arun District Council, which plays a key role in holding Southern Water accountable for water quality and infrastructure issues, has met with Emma Hardy, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Water and Flooding. The Southern Water Local Authority Stakeholder Group was set up in the aftermath of a catalogue of issues including flooding, sewage seeping into people’s homes, gardens and roads, the ongoing problem of discharges into rivers and waterways and the inability to deal with additional development. Set up by Wealden District Council, it includes representatives from more than 20 councils across the south east. The Arun district is home to almost 165,000 residents, with 5.3% identifying as having served in the Armed Forces. The council’s Armed Forces Champions play a vital role in connecting veterans with essential services, including safeguarding, housing, and cost-of-living support. Regular attendance at local veterans’ hubs ensures a strong, ongoing relationship with the community. Read more here New grant scheme launched to boost Littlehampton High StreetWe have launched the Littlehampton Retail Start-Up Grant Scheme, a new initiative aimed at revitalising the town centre by supporting independent retailers to open in vacant units. The scheme offers grants of up to £3,000 to help new retail businesses establish themselves in Littlehampton’s High Street, Beach Road, and Surrey Street. Our goal is to reduce the number of empty shops, encourage diverse and sustainable retail offerings, and support local entrepreneurs in bringing fresh energy to the town. Follow this link for more information New temporary banking hub opens in LittlehamptonCash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect access to cash across the UK, has opened a temporary home for the banking hub in the Fleming Room at Littlehampton Town Council. Customers of all major banks can visit the hub any weekday between 9am-5pm to carry out regular cash transactions including cash withdrawals and deposits as well as checking balances or paying bills. Additionally, the hub also offers a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank in a private space about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub. Cash Access UK has confirmed it is working to secure a long-term home for the banking hub which will offer the same services.
