Changes to your bin collections to start in spring 2026

From April 2026, all councils in England will be legally required to provide weekly food waste collections as part of the government’s Simpler Recycling reforms, which aim to create a more consistent approach to waste and recycling across the country.

At the same time, Arun will move to fortnightly general waste collections using a new 180-litre wheeled bin. This change is designed to encourage greater use of both the new food waste service and the existing fortnightly mixed recycling collections, which will remain fortnightly.

Before the scheme begins, residents will receive a free 180-litre general waste bin, a free outdoor waste bin for food waste and a free 5-litre indoor food caddie with a starter roll of liners.

Communal properties and flats will be assessed separately and provided with suitable shared bins where needed.

Pride in Place investment announced for Wick with Toddington

Wick with Toddington has been awarded a landmark £20 million in government funding through the national Pride in Place programme.

This is a transformative initiative designed to empower communities and restore pride in local neighbourhoods.

The funding will be delivered over the next ten years, with £2 million allocated annually to support long-term regeneration and community-led development. Wick with Toddington (in Littlehampton) is one of 169 areas across the UK selected for this investment, which aims to put local people at the heart of neighbourhood renewal.

Proposed changes to Bognor Regis Town Hall services’ community access

Arun District Council is proposing a change to how face-to-face services are delivered in Bognor Regis, with plans to remove the fixed, permanent front-of-house desk at Bognor Regis Town Hall.

This proposal is part of a wider strategy to improve service delivery across the district, ensuring that support reaches more residents in the ways they need it most.

Under the new plans, services would be delivered through scheduled outreach sessions at accessible community venues, pop-up events and targeted support in areas with greater need. This approach allows us to better serve residents who may not currently access the town hall, while also making more effective use of resources.

Arun provides warm spaces to support those who need them

Arun District Council’s aim is to help those in our communities struggling with the cost of living.

For the last three winters, we have run a grants programme for groups and organisations to provide warm spaces across Arun for those in need. This has proved to be a success and we are pleased to be able to offer a grants programme again this year.

We are asking groups and organisations to support us in delivering spaces across Arun that are open, welcoming for all, accessible, safe and free to our communities to come inside and warm up. We want to ensure that anyone who is cold, knows where they can go to get warm, stay warm and enjoy a bit of company.
