New beach wheelchair scheme set to open up Littlehampton seafront for all

Residents and visitors with limited mobility can now enjoy easier access to Littlehampton beach, thanks to a new beach wheelchair loan scheme introduced by Arun District Council.

The scheme, delivered in partnership with the council’s leisure provider, Freedom Leisure, operates from The West Green area of Littlehampton seafront, alongside the popular water play area. Operating hours align with the water play facility.

The specially designed beach wheelchair has been built for coastal environments and features low-pressure balloon wheels that can travel across sand and other beach surfaces, helping users get closer to the shoreline and enjoy the beach experience.

Southern Water to spend £4m on improving water quality in Bognor Regis

Southern Water is investing £4m in Bognor Regis to help reduce spills from the town’s main storm overflow pipe, as part of its wider £1.5bn Clean Rivers and Seas Plan.

The company is also spending £20m at Pagham Wastewater Treatment Works to improve how wastewater is treated, with work due to be completed this summer.

Residents invited to help shape a greener, more resilient future for West Sussex

County, district, and borough councils across West Sussex are inviting residents to take part in a new climate change consultation launched earlier this month.

The consultation will gather views on draft plans that aim to make West Sussex a greener, more resilient county where people and nature thrive together.

The councils have worked together through a group called the West Sussex Joint Climate Change Board with support from climate specialists City Science.
